    Dr. John Hunt

    Veterinarian/Owner

Dr. John Hunt has been the owner and operator of the hospital since 1988.  He and his family moved up from Connecticut after practicing for 5 years at three different small animal practices in the Hartford area.

Dr. Hunt purchased the practice when it was a part time satellite clinic for Dr. Andrews in Searsport.  The Bucksport Bay Area welcomed Dr. Hunt’s full veterinary care service with open arms and fantastic support.  In a matter of 3 to 4 years the facility changed from a small red farm house to a large full scale hospital with  kennels, surgery suite, 3 exam rooms, and state of the art diagnostic equipment.

Dr. Hunt grew up in Dobbs Ferry, a small town on the Hudson River , in New York.  After graduating from Dobbs Ferry High School in 1970 he went to The University of Connecticut in Storrs and earned a B.S. in Natural Resource Conservation in 1974.  From there Dr. Hunt attended Michigan State University graduate school in E. Lansing where he earned his Master of Science degree in Zoology; specializing in animal behavior.  After taking a year off in which he taught college biology and coached track in his home town,  Dr. Hunt headed back to E. Lansing to attend veterinary school. After graduating from MSU Veterinary College in 1982 he settled in Connecticut to start his career and a family.

Dr. Hunt is a proud father of three wonderful , now grown, children: Will, Jane, and Molly.   Will is a musician, has Masters degree in music recording technology and is currently working for Bose sound systems in Mass.  Jane has her Masters in Literature and is currently an adjunct instructor at the University of New Hampshire, and Molly is a sophomore at UMaine in Orono majoring in sociology.  Mrs Michelle Hunt is a home care nurse in Hancock county with a specialty in wound care.

Besides being a father, husband and veterinarian Dr. Hunt has been a track and cross country coach at various times in the Bucksport schools for the past 15 years.  He is currently just coaching  the Bucksport Indoor Track team.
