Dr. Michael Munzer BVMS MRCVS
Michael Munzer may be from away, but he loves Maine! Dr. Munzer joined Bucksport Veterinary Hospital in 2011 after 6 years living in Scotland. “Maine’s rocky coastline, rugged natural beauty and friendly people made me feel at home right away,” Michael said recently. Prior to coming to Maine, Dr. Munzer spent short stints at Angel Animal Medical Center in Boston, MA and the ASPCA of Gulfport, MS where he volunteered his time on emergency case work and surgery. While living in Scotland, Michael worked with the Strathspey Animal Clinic, Grantown-on-Spey, where he spent time in general practice and large animal field work.
Dr. Munzer grew up in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York. He spent his summers boating on Lake George and winters ski racing at West and Gore Mountains. Michael received a BS in Science, Technology and Systems from Pitzer College in 1995 and worked for several years as a computer engineer in the medical software industry before changing his career to veterinary medicine. Michael received his post-baccalaureate pre-veterinary training from Tufts University prior to attending veterinary school at the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
An avid skier and hiker, Michael enjoys spending time outdoors and with his friends and family. He is an enthusiastic boater, at one time considering a career as a boat captain and acquiring a U.S. Coast Guard captain’s license, but ultimately his dream of becoming a veterinarian prevailed. Michael is a lover of all music, in particular blues and jazz, eager to attend the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival every year. Dr. Munzer lives with his wife, Karin, and their cat, Kronk, in Ellsworth, Maine.
